Teaching and Learning Resources

From the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum - two new online sites.

First Person — Conversations with Holocaust Survivors
http://snurl.com/7r1i6 and www.ushmm.org/kristallnacht

This virtual world experience in Second Life blends archival sound, video and photo material with narrative story-telling in an immersive learning environment. Visitors are invited to take on the role of journalists, investigate the history, reflect on the tragedy that was Kristallnacht, and consider its consequences. At the end, each visiting “journalist” can file his or her own report about this important event.

The project was inspired by a beta concept and design developed by teenagers working at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in partnership with Global Kids and the teen-run design firm, Digital Refinery.

In order to visit Second Life, you must first download the Second Life browser at http://secondlife.com. If you already have Second Life installed on your computer, you can teleport to the Witnessing History sim via http://snurl.com/7r1i6.

In addition to the Second Life environment, the Museum has launched a Web page commemorating the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht,
www.ushmm.org/kristallnacht, which provides a number of resources for educators, students and the public, including photographs, artifacts, and survivor testimonies.
