Statement

As the grandchild of a German soldier, killed in WWII, and German war refugees, I have been struggling with bridging the gap between the reality of German war brutalities and the Holocaust, on the one side, and my love for the surviving grandparents with their personal stories of suffering and struggle, on the other side.

In my effort to understand the National Socialist past and legacy of my country, I am drawn to look at the power of indoctrination, the seductive aspects of mass experience and group dynamics, and the consequential loss of distance and rational thought in the individual.
