Göteborg University: Fundamental Values
Theme-based research, education and regional development in schools.
Values - A Foundation
Value issues engage us all, consciously and unconsciously. In the recent past, our grasp of these issues' importance in our lives and to our future has grown. What, then, do we mean by a 'value foundation', and how is this foundation changing? How should we develop and consolidate shared basic values in society? What problems may arise on the way, and how should we tackle them?
Building Bridges for a Better World
Both in schools and at universities there are skills available, as well as urgent needs to be met in the field of knowledge relating to basic values. By cooperating and coordinating our activities more and better, we enhance our knowledge, skills and, accordingly, also our work in this field. Current research and teaching in higher education can be integrated into schools' work and skills development in many different ways. The benefits of collaboration are scientific and educational, as well as financial. To emphasise the importance it attaches to issues relating to fundamental values, Goteborg University has initially allocated strategic funds for themebased, interdisciplinary research on society's, and thereby the education sector's, basic values.
